When the client approached us about designing a custom wine cabinet, we knew it would be a challenging project. The client had an innovative design in mind that would require extensive engineering and technical work. The first challenge was finding a smoked wood that could withstand the humidity needed to properly store wine without warping. We tested over 20 wood samples before finding an acacia wood that was suitable when treated with a specialty sealant. The LED lighting system was also complex to design with the different color temperatures and remote operation required. We brought in an lighting engineer to help design a custom system from the ground up. There were difficulties synchronizing the different LED channels at first, but we were able to solve this by changing to a higher quality LED driver. Another hurdle was maximizing the wine bottle capacity in a confined space. Standard slide-out shelf designs would not provide enough space. We designed a proprietary shelf glide system that allowed shelves to slide smoothly while optimizing space for exactly 250 bottles. Humidity control was also not straightforward. The compact cabinet space required a very small yet powerful system. We discovered a specialist supplier providing miniaturized humidity control units for highend displays. After testing, we adapted one of their units to perfectly maintain humidity levels inside the cabinet. There were also challenges matching the sleek look the client wanted while achieving full functionality. Several cabinet and shelving designs had to be reworked to accommodate all the technology and moving parts. In the end, we were able to craft a harmonious blend of form and function. With expertise, patience, and persistence, we were able overcome each difficulty one by one to ultimately achieve the innovative wine cabinet design the client envisioned. Despite the challenges inherent in such a complex project, the final outcome was very rewarding. The client was thrilled with the cabinet, which provides a unique blend of modern luxury, functionality, and cutting-edge wine storage.
